Sticky Situation

Transportation department officials decided to resurface a four mile section of U.S. 82 in between Nahunta and Atkinson in Brantley County in southeast Georgia last week with a new material made of tar and shredded tires. Unfortunately when the sun heated the material it became sticky. Sticky enough in fact to stop some 200 motorists. The rubbery goo did in fact dissolve any tire it came in contact with sticking them hopelessly to the pavement. One 18-wheeler driver lost all 18 of his new tires to the tune of $450 each. All drivers with damaged vehicles will be compensated, said Thomas Gill, an assistant transportation department engineer.
